Last week, in preparation for the vice-presidential debate in Danville, we asked HuffPost readers to send in their photos of Kentucky -- to show off the people, places and towns they know, and to show us the problems and issues that aren't getting covered.

Today, we're calling on our New York state readers to do the same.

The second presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will take place Tuesday night at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York. Before that happens, we want to see your photos of what New York really looks like. Not just Hempstead, not just Long Island, but everywhere in the Empire State.

How is your community doing? What's the state of the local economy? Are things better or worse now than they were four years ago?

Show us your New York state.

Tag your photos anywhere online with #firsthand and #thisisNY. Or send an e-mail to firsthand@huffingtonpost.com.

We'll start publishing your photos later today.
