Selena Gomez’s new show “13 Reasons Why” premiered on Netflix Thursday night, and Gomez is feeling some kind of way about it.

The 13-episode series, which Gomez executive produced, has long been a labor of love for the singer. Gomez shared an emotional Instagram post Friday, thanking her colleagues for making her dream a reality.

“Our show @13reasonswhy came out tonight and I couldn’t be more overwhelmed with pride and joy,” Gomez wrote. “After 7 years of holding onto this book, I couldn’t [have] picked a better time for this message to exist.”

”Jay Asher wrote a beautifully tragic, compelling story and we were lucky to have brought it to life,” Gomez added. “Thank you to every single soul that put their heart into this passion project.”

“13 Reasons Why” tells the story of a teenage girl’s death by suicide and the 13 tapes she leaves behind for the people she believes are responsible for her death. Gomez has called the show “an authentic story” and hopes the series “can enlighten people to what words mean when you say them.”

Gomez says she waited years to produce “13 Reasons Why,” sitting on the story until the ideal actors walked through the door. Gomez seems to have found her dream cast in Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnette, who play Hannah Baker and Clay Jensen, respectively.

“After 6 years waiting to find the perfect Hannah and Clay for @13reasonswhy I couldn’t be luckier we cast these two,” Gomez wrote in February.

Aside from being a huge driver behind the show’s production, Gomez also recorded a song for the show, debuting her cover of the classic song “Only You” on Twitter Wednesday. The 24-year-old singer says her song choice was “inspired by Hannah and Clay’s story.”
