It looks like teen dreamboat Shawn Mendes is making the transition from song to the silver screen. The 18-year-old singer has been cast in Ivan Reitman’s upcoming movie-musical “Summer of Love.”

Details about the plot are scarce, but the movie’s title is a reference to the summer of 1967, when approximately 100,000 people descended on the San Francisco neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury attempting to create a hippie utopia, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

Mendes’s vocal talents should be put to excellent use, given that the so-called Summer of Love featured iconic musical performances from The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and others.

“Summer of Love” will be Mendes’ first live-action movie role (he previously voiced a character in the 2013 film “Underdogs”) and original “Ghostbusters” director Reitman’s first movie-musical.

We think this exciting casting news calls for a dance party, don’t you?

A release date has not yet been announced.
