Capito Elected As The First Female Senator From West Virginia

Republican Shelley Moore Capito was victorious in her race against Democrat Natalie Tennant, making the congresswoman the first female to be elected to the U.S. Senate from the Mountain State.

Capito has served in the House of Representatives since 2001. Tennant is the West Virginia secretary of state.
