The Perfect 5-Ingredient Fall Dessert

Three words: spiced cider pears.

Saying goodbye to summer may mean the end of peach cobblers and strawberry shortcakes, but it certainly doesn't mean you have to give up sweet, fruity desserts. Fall is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on succulent pears, and this five-ingredient recipe from Oprah's former chef makes for a divine after-dinner treat.

Spiced Cider Pears

Recipe by Art Smith

OWN

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

4 ripe pears

1 lemon, quartered

2 c. apple cider

4 star anise

2 Tbsp. honey

Directions

Peel pears and rub each one with a lemon quarter to prevent from turning brown. Use a melon baller or small spoon to core each pear through the bottom.

In a large pot with a steaming basket insert, add apple cider and star anise and bring to a boil. Place pears in steaming basket and cover. Cook until pears are soft and tender, 20 to 30 minutes; remove pears and set aside.

Reduce heat to low and continue cooking cider until it reduces to about 1/2 cup. Add honey and stir 5 minutes; remove star anise with a spoon and pour cider reduction over pears.
