As Spike Lee’s classic flick, “Do The Right Thing” steadily approaches the 25 year anniversary since its release on June 30, the film’s neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York is set to celebrate the milestone.
According to New York Pix 11, on Saturday Lee will return to the exact location, on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington and Quincy avenues where the film was shot, for a special block party aptly dubbed, “Do The Right Thing Day.” While announcing the commemorative event earlier this week, the director expressed the importance of returning to the film’s classic backdrop.
“’Do The Right Thing’ was shot on one block. The whole movie was shot on one block,” he said. “We needed a block that had two empty lots so we could build Sunnies Korean vegetable stand and Sal’s famous pizzeria. So we think it’s a historic block…”
“Do The Right Thing Day” will take place from Noon to 6pm.
