We Tried Starbucks' New Toasted Graham Latte

Peace out, PSL.

If you're burned out from pumpkin spice everything, this is the beverage for you.

Starbucks released its first autumn espresso drink in four years today, on the official first day of fall. It's the Toasted Graham Latte ... and we're delighted to say that it is deliciously free of all things pumpkin spice.

According to Starbucks, the Toasted Graham Latte (or TGL) is "graham crackers and milk all grown up," with "flavors of graham and sweet cream" plus steamed milk and espresso.

Naturally, we ran out to try one.

And naturally, the "sprinkling of graham cracker crumbs" was missing from the top. But hey, the limited-edition fall doodle cup kind of makes up for it:

...and hey, at least there isn't a neon-orange tint beneath the foam like in the PSL. Take a look at its natural non-orange color here:

The TGL has a decadent and creamy texture, like the latte drinks you'd get from the self-service machines at 7-Eleven. And we mean that in the best possible way (well, if you're the type who likes sugary coffee drinks).

Speaking of sugar, a grande TGL has 40 grams of sugar, while a PSL of the same size has 48 grams. Though neither of those is good, per se, the TGL is the lesser of two autumn-flavored evils.

Starbucks says the TGL is meant to evoke fall memories, like "the nostalgic flavor of milk left behind in the cereal bowl" before school. With a rich cinnamon taste and sweet, creamy finish, we'd say the drink definitely delivers.

The TGL will be available through the end of October or until supplies last. And now, you won't have to wait around for your latte:
