Lady Gaga basically turned Super Bowl LI into the Monsters Ball on Sunday night by slaying her 13-minute-long halftime show like she was born to do.
The singer performed a medley of her greatest hits like “Born This Way” and “Bad Romance” in a high-flying, expertly choreographed extravaganza beginning with a leap off the roof of Houston’s NRG Stadium.
Social media naturally exploded into a ball of glitter as reactions poured in from everyone from Hillary Clinton to Katy Perry, all left shook by the halftime show just like you and me.
I'm one of 100 million #SuperBowl fans that just went #Gaga for the Lady, & her message to all of us. https://t.co/8AoNqjwr1b

Incredible performance from my friend @LadyGaga. You amaze me — and not just onstage. Proud to work with you to end sexual assault. #ItsOnUs pic.twitter.com/ZOva2lpAOZ

I'm gagging over @ladygaga and her halftime show. She was everything. Creative and fearless and inclusive. Loved.

Dancing hard. Singing live. Ends it catching a football! I always liked #Gaga. Now I love her. Sorry not sorry. That was freakin' awesome.

The theme of every Lady Gaga performance is "I'm the greatest pop star alive whether it's cool for you to admit it or not."

.@ladygaga Lady...the most super thing about the Super Bowl was you....just amazing!

That feeling when maybe Lady Gaga has better hand-eye coordination than you. pic.twitter.com/cLFX2285ym

I'm crying during this performance and I don't even really know why and that is the power of @ladygaga #Superbowl #ladygaga pic.twitter.com/HbVuKyAttp
— Lauren Zima (@laurenzima) February 6, 2017
okay but like we can't all just pretend it's not INSANE she just flew from the top of the stadium to the bottom!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!!?!??!!
— Melissa Radzimski (@melissaradz) February 6, 2017
YES Gaga!!
— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) February 6, 2017
If nothing else it's hard not to be impressed with how unabashedly gay this whole performance is
— Sam Lansky (@samlansky) February 6, 2017
Others, however, were less than impressed by the absence of Beyoncé, who many hoped would make a surprise appearance, as well as a strong political statement running through the halftime show, which was heavily debated before Sunday’s game.
That was good but not like Beyoncé good
— Joel Pavelski (@joelcifer) February 6, 2017
don't 👏🏻 perform 👏🏻 "Telephone" if 👏🏻 Beyoncé 👏🏻 isn't 👏🏻 there
— Kevin O'Keeffe (@kevinpokeeffe) February 6, 2017
People are dying in America but "some gay kid in Boise felt included" by a song that's performed since 2011 y'all really defend anything
— Ira Madison III (@ira) February 6, 2017
What about the gay Muslim kid who can't get into Boise I'm sleep tho
