A pastor speaking at a Donald Trump rally in North Carolina said Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders needs to "meet Jesus."

"Bernie Sanders, who doesn’t believe in God, how in the world we going to let Bernie... I mean, really?" televangelist Mark Burns said.

"Listen, Bernie’s got to get saved, Bernie’s got to meet Jesus, I don't know," Burns said. "He’s got to have a coming to Jesus meeting."

Sanders is Jewish, but told the Washington Post earlier this year that he was not "actively involved with organized religion."

While the pastor suggested Sanders was an atheist, the senator from Vermont has said he does believe in God.

"I think everyone believes in God in their own ways,” Sanders told the Post. "To me, it means that all of us are connected, all of life is connected, and that we are all tied together."

Editor's note: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
