Donald Trump On Mitt Romney: 'Are You Sure He's Mormon?'

Are you even surprised?

Donald Trump savaged Mitt Romney on his home turf Friday night, calling the 2012 Republican presidential nominee a “choke artist” and questioning his faith.

“Are you sure he’s a Mormon? Are we sure?” Trump asked a crowd in Salt Lake City.

"Do I love the Mormons? I have many friends that live in Salt Lake City -- and by the way, Mitt Romney is not one of them," Trump jeered.

Friday’s volley escalates the feud between Trump and Romney, who denounced the GOP front-runner as "a fraud" in a lengthy speech this month. Earlier Friday, Romney said he would vote for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in Tuesday’s Utah caucus. He said he was “repulsed” by Trump, and said Cruz has the best shot at stopping Trump from winning the nomination.

Polls show Cruz leading Trump in Utah.

Questioning his opponents' faith is not a new tactic for Trump. He has raised doubts about Ben Carson, who has dropped out of the race, as a Seventh Day Adventist, and about Cruz as an evangelical, Politico notes.

He also has repeatedly suggested that President Barack Obama, who is Protestant, is Muslim.

Editor's note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
