Life has a funny way of creeping up on us. Do you find yourself waking up on Monday mornings unhappy with your career and life? Do you constantly complain about work? Does your misery and unhappiness trickle into your family life? If so, you need to change your story! You need to take action and make change. If you are not willing to make change, then stop complaining. If you are unwilling to change your story, you don’t have the right to complain about your story. I guarantee if you’re not sick of hearing yourself complain about the same thing over and over, then your spouse, family and friends sure are.

How do I know? I was there. I lost everything. It put me in a really bad depression and all I did was complain about how miserable my life was. It took for a really good friend to grab me by my shoulders and say “Diaz, You Need To Change Your Story”. I saw the look in her eyes and I knew it was bad. My dear friend was sick of hearing the complaints and watching me slip into a further downward spiral. It was then I decided to get clear on what I wanted, drill down on my skills set and decided to take massive action to get back to where I didn’t let failure and the fear of loss paralyze my every move! Just that advice alone, helped me change my story and my life and get back on track. You too can change your story by doing the exact same thing.

If you want to change your story, you need to get clear about what you want in life. What are your goals, dreams and aspirations? You need to make a focused effort to spend some time thinking about where you see yourself. It’s ok to dream big! Dreams are just goals that have not yet been met. If your unhappiness stems from being an employee, where do you see yourself as an Entrepreneur? Once you get clear, the confusion will fade and it will become much easier to get what you want in life.

About a year ago I heard of a productivity concept of creating a “not to do list”. I admit, at the time, I thought it was a crazy idea. Until I tried it. It works, someway, somehow your brain focuses on the things not to do in your day, allowing your focus to be directed to the things that matter.

This same concept can be used to help you get clear on what you want in your life. Write down the things that you don’t want. The things that utterly repulse you. Using this strategy will help you visualize what you truly want in life.

Write the Following Five Categories Down and Create A “Don’t Want List” and “Want List”

  1. Career
  2. Financial
  3. Family
  4. Social
  5. Physical

Once you do this, it should help you get really clear on the trajectory in which you want your life to head. Now all you have to do is take massive action to get you there. Remember, talk is cheap if you aren’t willing to take action. You can have all the plans in the world, but if you do not implement them, it’s pointless.

If you want to change your story, you need to get clear, take action and never give up. You will face your fair share of failures and setbacks, but keep on pushing on and with a lot of hard work, self-discipline and grit, anything is possible.
