UPDATE: 'Suspicious' Rogers Park Fire Kills One, Injures Several (VIDEO)

One person was killed and five others--including two firefighters--were injured Thursday afternoon in a blaze fire officials deemed "suspicious" in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

The fire started just about noon in a five-story apartment building in the 6700 block of North Sheridan Road, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Firefighters worked to rescue several residents, but one man was found dead on the scene in a fifth-floor hallway. His name was not being released Thursday afternoon. Another man jumped from the fifth floor in the back of the building while firefighters were already on the scene. Three residents were hospitalized and two firefighters also sustained injuries. The jumper was listed in critical condition.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford told the Sun-Times that the fire spread quickly through the fifth floor of the building, where it was contained.

Though the blaze remains under investigation, Langford said it does appear to be suspicious.

The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago is assisting up to 12 people displaced by the fire.
