Hillary Clinton is far from the only woman making history this fall.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Vivica A. Fox will portray the role of President Ellen Henricksen in the sci-fi thriller “Crossbreed.” The film ― which follows a group of retired military war heroes who are sent to retrieve an extraterrestrial being ― makes Fox the first African-American woman to star as commander-in-chief on the silver screen.
“When my producers brought up the idea of Vivica in the role, it was a lightning bolt,” the film’s director, Brandon Slagle told the Hollywood Reporter. “It was a fantastic idea. Someone who could light up a room but also has a commanding presence. Our president is positive and proactive, not the grim figure as is usually portrayed in these types of movies.”
Fox also shared her excitement and gratitude for the historic role on Instagram.
Similar to Fox’s latest role, in 2014 Alfre Woodard also made history inthe role of Constance Peyton, television’s first black female POTUS on NBC’s drama series, “State of Affairs,” which aired for one season.
Here’s to more future black female leaders of the free world ― preferably on and off-screen!
“Crossbreed” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017.
