Warren Sapp Was Attacked By A Shark And Lived To Tell The Tale

NFL Hall of Famer and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp was bitten on the arm by a shark while lobstering in the Florida Keys on Wednesday.

Sapp was on the water with Two Conch Charters, a fishing charter based out of Marathon, Florida, during Florida’s two-day sport lobster season that began Wednesday.

“It’s simple,” charter captain Jack Carlson wrote in a text message to the Tampa Bay Times. “He was lobstering with me and a shark bit Sapp while he was grabbing the lobster. He’s OK ... [Sapp] may need stitches.”

Two Conch Charters posted a photo of the shark bite to their Instagram with the hashtag “EpicBattle.”

According to the Tampa Bay Times, a witness claimed that the shark may have been a four-foot nurse shark, and it appeared to go for a lobster at the same time as Sapp.

Carlson explained that sharks hang around the lobster holes in the Florida Keys as the crustacean is part of their diet.

But even after the encounter, Sapp and the crew did not let the experience deter them from catching a nice lobster dinner. “We bandaged [the bite] up, put some gauze on there, some black electrical tape and hit a couple more spots,” Carlson wrote.

Sapp seemed to be in good spirits after the ordeal. He later posted a picture of the lobsters he caught to Instagram with the caption, “Shark got a little chuck [sic] of Me. We got dinner! #winning.”
