The Washington Post Gets Hacked

The Washington Post was hacked by an unconfirmed source, potentially exposing employee usernames and passwords, the newspaper reported Wednesday.

A spokeswoman from the Post said she estimates that the hacking occurred over "a few days at most," although it appears that no credit card account information, home addresses or other highly personal information was accessed.

The hacking is reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred in August when The Washington Post, CNN and Time were hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army, the same group that sent a fake tweet from the Associated Press' account in April saying that the White House had been attacked.

The Post reported that this is one of at least three other hacking incidents that have occurred in the last three years. A cyberattack in 2011 was reported to be part of a larger scheme involving Chinese hackers, and company officials are now wondering if the latest attack could be the work of the same group.
