Watch This Young Girl Superbly Break Down The Importance Of BLM

A video of a young girl speaking passionately about race is going viral ― and every person who doesn’t “get” the Black Lives Matter movement needs to watch it.

The clip, posted by Twitter user @makaylaathomass on Tuesday, features an unnamed girl in a classroom setting, powerfully breaking down the racist injustices that have inspired many black people to protest police brutality and a broken justice system.

“Tamir Rice could have been my brother. That could have been my brother. Laid out on the street. A 13-year-old,” the young woman says.

“Trayvon Martin was walking down the street with his hood on. Are you saying that I can’t walk down the street in my own neighborhood without worrying about my safety?”

She then challenges the idea that the Black Lives Matter movement is anti-cop or anti-white, saying:

“That’s not what it means. What it means is that Black Lives Matter, too...We’re not saying that white lives don’t matter. We’re not saying police officer’s lives don’t matter. We’re not saying Hispanic lives don’t matter. We’re not saying Middle Eastern lives don’t matter. We are saying there is a problem in this country with people caring about black people.”

She ends by declaring that she wants to become a lawyer expressly to combat the racial injustices she sees every day.

“You cannot allow this to happen. You cannot value someone else’s life in society over someone else’s. It’s a problem. And if you can’t see it’s a problem then you’re oblivious to it.”

As of Thursday, the young woman’s emotional speech has gotten over 60,000 retweets and 85,000 likes on Twitter.
