If you are here reading this, then you probably know how this ends. If you are here and you don’t know what Pokemon Go is, scroll down your Facebook news feed for 5 seconds. I was hesitant to hop on the Pokemon train. The results were pretty shocking. I’ll admit Pokemon Go has completely changed my marriage… but in a good way!

My husband and I have been married a little over 2 years, and we have never been this involved in an activity that we could do together. I thought that I would go ahead and join in on this “game” just to see what he’s been talking about. Little did I know we would form a bond over 150 digital creatures.

I’m serious. There are so many amazing benefits that Pokemon Go gives my husband and I. Here is what I am talking about:

We Talk More.

I always got on my husband about how we should talk more. How we need to hang out more and have these bonding experiences. To be honest, I didn’t know much about Pokemon before I downloaded the app. So my husband always loves telling me about the different Pokemon we catch and how to evolve and level up. I love watching him in his element. Once we even ended up at a Sonic at 1:00am just talking about the Pokemon we caught and how much fun we had.

We Go Out More.

No more Netflix and chill. We are going out! Sure going out means going outside searching for Pokemon, but at least we are going somewhere and doing something. The fun part is that it’s always somewhere new! My favorite nights are the ones where we end up getting fast food because we can’t stop searching for a second!

We Exercise More.

Talk about getting off the couch! I can’t even count the steps we take each day looking for Pokemon. We always used to say we would go on walks everyday and exercise more, but lets be honest, it never happened. Now, we don’t even think of it as exercise! Sometimes we walk for hours, some just minutes, but at least we are becoming more active.

We Meet New People.

I am both shocked and amused at how many people play this game. It’s funny to me how conversations come so easily when people with the same goal surround you. I love it, I really do. I love how such a big group of individuals can gather together without any violence or discrimination. We have even been asked to go on a double date just to go Pokemon searching! How cool is that?

We Step Out Of Our Comfort Zone.

Between talking to strangers to going down dead end roads, each day gets better and better. We are going through graveyards at night, down parking lot after parking lot, and to new stores and restaurants we would have never gone to on our own. The best part is that we are experiencing all of this for the first time together.

We Celebrate Each Other’s Victories.

My favorite part is when we both catch a difficult or hard to find Pokemon and we high five each other. High. Five. You guys! I feel like a kid again. We are constantly smiling and laughing. We are supporting each other with every step (literally), and it feels really good.

There you have it! I strongly recommend couples to both get involved with Pokemon Go. You don’t have to get real into it, you don’t even have to understand it, but at least try and figure it out together. You never know what may come from it!

Now go catch some Pokemon!
