With an estimated 7.5 million downloads in 5 days, Pokémon GO is a massive success. The mobile game allows users to catch pokémon in the real world providing a surreal intersection between real life and virtual reality.

Pokémon Go places you in a virtual world and uses your phone's GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game world. It uses this data to make Pokémon appear on your phone screen so you can travel to their location in the real world and use your mobile device to catch them. Despite collecting a massive amount of data from its users Pokémon GO's use of augmented reality and pocket monsters has proven irresistible.

While almost anyone could have predicted the game to be a success, no one could have anticipated the strange effects Pokémon GO has had on the real world. From one girl finding a dead body, to other players falling victim to armed robbery, provide proof that these pocket monsters are more than just a digital menace.

It seems The Nick and Kelly Show may have been prophetic. Their new video, Pokémon Go Goes Wrong, demonstrates the addictive and dangerous nature of Pokémon Go. Thanks to this technology being so new, putting out cautionary measures is difficult. So from all of us at Outspeak, be strong and wary out there, fellow Pokémon trainers.
