Salads are the quintessential summer food. When it’s hot out and the produce is overflowing with seasonal options, it makes sense. Once the seasons change ― and the weather starts to cool ― most people give up their salad-eating ways, but there is no need to do that.

Winter produce actually makes some of the best salads we’ve ever tasted. And they’re hearty too, which is what our bodies crave when it’s cold out. We’re talking chard, mustard greens and kale as a base with citrus, beets and pomegranates mixed in.
