World's Youngest Drag Racer Belle Wheeler Is Only 8 (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

8-year-old Girl Is Now World's Youngest Drag Racer (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Most girls would be happy to celebrate turning eight with a party. Belle Wheeler celebrated her on Sept. 23 it by setting a record -- as the world's youngest drag racer.

Wheeler, who at four feet, four-inches is barely tall enough to see above most car steering wheels, managed to drive her way to fame by racing a 15-foot dragster around the Santa Pod track near her home town of Willingborough, according to the TheSun.co.uk.

Even more amazing: She passed her initial test that allowed her to drive in only an hour.

Two days later, she was racing against drivers twice her age in the UK National Finals in a car capable of going zero to 50 in just 12 seconds.

Despite her young age, Belle has her priorities in order, according to the Mirror.

“It was amazing to drive on my own. My friends are jealous,” she said, according to the paper.

Weird News: Strange, But True

There is a family precedent for young drivers. Belle's sister Paige, 12, started racing last year. Her dad, Andy Wheeler, admits he's worried about his kids driving such fast cars, he is more concerned about fairness.

“I am worried about them racing such fast cars, but we agreed for Paige to do it so we’ve got to give Belle a chance too,” he said.

Belle has a few years to go before she will be able to drive cars on the street. Although British law allows drivers as young as 8 to drive on tracks, drivers need to be at least 17 before they can get a license to drive on the road.
