We’re all for a turtleneck, and we’re all for a graphic T-shirt, but never before have we seen the bastard hybrid of the two, the graphic turtleneck. Until now, that is.
A prime example of this bizarre garment has been revealed to us, and not only that, it once belonged to Steve Jobs, the visionary founder of Apple and unexpected modern style icon. A black turtleneck with the word NeXT printed on it (NeXT was the computer company he founded in 1985 after he resigned from Apple) is being auctioned off at Julien’s Auctions, with an expected selling price somewhere between $1,000 and $3,000 (there are currently four bids at $1,000).
Per the lot’s description, this is a “black Vantage brand turtleneck owned by Steve Jobs. The shirt is printed across the front with the NeXT company logo and on across the back with ‘1980s: Personal Computing/ 1990s: Interpersonal Computing.’ Size XL.” If you’re looking for a totem from the heady days of the pre-Internet era, here it is.
And while 1980s Silicon Valley isn’t exactly the coolest look out there, for a group of moneyed tech dorks, this is a seriously amazing piece of the past, memorabilia that geeks and iPhone lovers alike will find very interesting, regardless of the fact that it’s a garment you’d never want to wear. However, if Steve Jobs gave it his nod of approval, which was, after all, incredibly hard to get, maybe it’s worth reconsidering.
