Importance of Identity

We are all unique in someway. We all have special gifts and attributes that make each of us unique specifically. Our identity is what shapes us and makes us who we are. We live in a world where our identity is everything to us. Our identity is now integrated within the schemes of technological platforms putting our identity in the palm of our hands.

Identity Theft Rises

Identity theft is the use of someone else’s identity, as a method to gain financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the other person’s name. The person whose identity has been taken can and will suffer serious consequences if they are held liable for their actions. This type of theft happens when someone uses another’s personal information, like their name, social security, or credit card number, without their permission, to commit frauds and crimes. This type of thing happens a lot more than you may think and with the constant use of electronic methods is seems to be open season. One of many methods used today is electronic pick-pocketing. This has become one of the top ways for criminals to target unsuspecting victims. So why does this continue to happen in this century? Well, the answer is very simple, we live in a digital-age where we use less and less cash. Combined with the latest RFID technology attached to debit and credit cards people are more apt to handle their financial obligations electronically. Doing this has made individuals more open to be hacked by online criminals.

Protection That Works

Registering with companies like Life Lock for a small monthly fee for protection and researching resource centers for tips on this specific topic can help. The more we research the more educated we can be protecting ourselves from further incidents. Websites like No Identity Theft are great resources to help draw a comparison of the best products for your needs. Also, try carrying more cash and doing less online spending for your protection. Now, I understand that may seem like an outdated approach, but think about the money you would say by making this adjustment for your added protection. You also have tons of online articles like the one you are reading and identity forums that are free and will help you along the way. Again, do your research and don’t continue to be uneducated and unprotected and get a “Lock on your Life, with Life Lock”, but that’s just a strong recommendation.
