Zero Women Win Nobel Prize During Sadly Anti-Woman Week

The internet took notice.

This year, the six people announced as Nobel laureates are all men. All of them.

Since its launch in 1895, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to 833 men and only 48 women. Of those 48 women, only four were black women. Yikes.

Given the past week in American politics, when allegation after allegation has come out against GOP candidate Donald Trump in the wake of #Pussygate, the lack of women in this year’s group of winners seemed especially ironic.

The glaring absence of women Nobel laureates wasn’t lost on people on social media:

Last year, two women were honored as Nobel laureates ― chemist Tu Youyou for her research in Malaria treatment, and Svetlana Alexievich for her journalism and non-fiction writing.
