<em>The Politico's</em> (Other) Reporting Problem

Based on recent offerings, I don't think the much-hyped Beltway news launch is finished handing out mea culpas. The Politico ought to apologize to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and to Sen. Barack Obama for a series of recent dishonest and misleading hit pieces that were every bit as egregious as the John Edwards whiff last week. The Richardson piece suggested he was being hounded about questions regarding his "behavior with women," and The Politico announced that Obama had a "Jewish problem."

The Politico could not substantiate either damaging accusation with anything that resembled the norms of mainstream journalism.
