What If Fox News Actually Wants Mob Violence?

What's Your Reaction:

Yes, it's been the rationalizing that's been so disturbing to watch -- the way the GOP Noise Machine fervently excused last week's violent behavior and eagerly tried to shift the blame onto the victims of the intimidation, and then demanded to know what the big deal was.

I mean, who hasn't had the line on a propane tank outside his house slashed by vandals? This stuff happens all the time, right? Didn't scores of members of Congress, immediately following the vote in 2002 to authorize the invasion of Iraq, find their office windows shattered by flying bricks hurled under the cover of darkness by nasty anti-war libs? Didn't they receive a steady stream of specific death threats and watch as relatives (and even their children) came under attack? Doesn't this kind of harassment and intimidation come with the territory, and hasn't it always been pushed out and legitimized by mainstream media outlets?

Um, not in America. But that may be changing as Fox News fuels the hate and does its best to provide cover and refuge for those supporting the intimidation campaign, as Fox News and the rest of the right-wing media rationalize the wave of political violence and do their best to shift the blame onto the targets -- onto the victims -- while always avoiding responsibility. (Did anyone on the left suggest Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) was to blame when a YouTube nut job posted a threat against his life?)

Note how so many embraced the frightening notion that because conservatives didn't like health care reform, the violence was expected and nobody should have been surprised because Democrats, by passing the bill (i.e. desecrating the Constitution), pushed people too far. "So why are people angry?" asked Fox News' Steve Doocy last week. "Maybe because they didn't want this bill?"

Talk about the rise of tyranny and the minority-rule mob.

It's a chilling prospect, but one that seems more and more plausible: What if Fox News actually wants mob violence?

As I've said previously, the problem, simply stated, is that the typical Cluster-Fox viewer reads that 'Fair & Balanced' logo that's always popping up, like boils on infected skin, and in their naivete they assume it to be 'truth in advertising'...as opposed to the oh-so-ironic marketing slogan that it is, in actuality. What they're hearing there is what they want to hear, even when it borders on yellow-rag rhetoric...and so they let Cluster-Fox 'do the thinking' for them, 24/7, and now just parrot the talking points they receive, without doing any fact-checking or further inquiry (which, of course, would require independent thought - an idea most definitely discouraged by Cap'n Murdoch)...

The FOX News people do not incite their viewers to violence.

Not once have I heard them do that. Media Matters always twists what the people at FOX say.

Hippie...are you serious? All MM does is document WHAT the Cluster-Foxer pundits ACTUALLY say - day, date and video-clip, nothing more. You surely don't expect us to believe ALL those incidents were just unfortunate 'slips of the tongue' or 'accidental inaccuracies'...do you, really? Once every now and then, yes...a couple of "Oopsies, did I say that?", very possible...but, when you have literally dozens (and dozens) of examples, then mere coincidence disappears, and a far more unpleasant theory comes to mind...but, unpleasant is an Cluster-Fox tradition, after all.

Ask yourself, how many cuddly kitten or adorable puppy stories do you see, every day, against how many shootings and bombings, and which do you actually pay attention to? Is FOX even American-owned? I try to be fair and balanced, but in the end, I'm aware that for MEDIA to make advertising $, they need sensational stories to rivet your attention. (Wasn't that a movie? if you MAKE the news, you can be the first to BREAK the news.) Do ALL news organizations spin their a stories? Sure. Do they they try to warp reality to conform to their preconcieved ideology? well, not to the degree FOX takes it.

Why are these cave dwellers given air time by the msm and not just fixed noise, I mean network news outlets, as well? Talk about slanted coverage. The american media shoud be ashamed of themeselves. They are the problem. If these knucke draggers didn't receive so much air time, they would slither away, because what is the point. Unbelievable what this country has come to.

These Tea Tantrum Tossers think that they're within their legal rights to protest, but they're completely wrong. When I last checked, slashing gas lines, hurling bricks through windows, and threatening to kill the children of those who voted in favor of health insurance reform do not fall under peaceable assembly, nor are they protected by free expression. These Tea Tantrum protests are, as simply as I can put it, seditious rioting, and FOX News is making absolutely no attempt to hide their endorsements and provocations of these riots, least of all, Glenn Beck. Every episode, he's always at his blackboard, screaming about "oligarhy," revolution, Nazi references (which are not funny anymore) and how President Obama and every Democrat in Congress isn't worthy of breathing. Sooner or later, someone's going to get stupid and try to assassinate the president again. Remember the '08 election race and all of those foiled assassination plots against then-candidate/president-elect Obama? I sure do.

What if ????
CLEARLY they are promoting violence and lies every day.
Now the question is asked, a little late.
As long as the violence is targeting dems fox is happy.
It will come back to haunt them, when the nuts with guns turn on them for all the lies and hatred they have seeded.
Fox has used the angry mobs to counter the government, all because a black man was elected Prez.

Liberals are the only ones I know who even consider race. Like an ink blot test, your people have woven in the fabric of their thinking, the idea of race.

What was it your hero Chris Matthews said? "For a moment I forgot he was black?"

I really think you "progressives" need to de-emphasize your "social studies" and start learning how to think. Take some math, physics or logic courses. Your eyes will open in a few years.

HuffPo cut my comment.

But look up "Dale Robertson sign" on Google. Or maybe they'll at least allow this link: http://www.mediaite.com/online/tea-party-founder-admitted-holding-n-word-sign-before-denying-it/

As you were saying? That seems damn racist to me.

Ah... did this just occur to Boehlert? The Ailes crowd know from experience how profitable coups can be (see Bush v. Gore, 2000). Non-violent, violent... there's no difference to them, as long as the end result provides them with complete control.

The American right is full of armchair jihadists. They are not only flirting with danger--they're actively courting it. Anyone who thinks that there isn't a large swath of wingers who would love another Oklahoma City (or an assassination) is extraordinarily naive.

Get it through your heads. The anger has nothing to do with health care reform per-se. It has to do with the fact that your people are committing our future labor (grandchildrens and childrens) to yet another likely to fail government entitlement.

Get it through your heads that none of us wish anyone to go without healthcare.

Get it through your heads that SS is NOW UNDERFUNDED at the VERY BEGINNING of the retirement of the boomers. Government has failed.

Get it through your your heads that Medicare’s annual spending exceeded revenue brought in from taxes in 2008, forcing Medicare to begin spending its reserve funds. According to the Medicare Trustees, Medicare’s reserve will be empty by 2017.

Get it through your heads that Bush was delinquint in creating HomeLand Security rather than making FBI and CIA work together.

Get it through your heads that no one can come up with a video showing any violence emating from the tea parties. Please show us if you have one.

I think you and your people are living within the walls of a rationalization. No one can contradict these points with any veracity.
11:53 AM on 03/31/2010
Get it through your head-your on the wrong website. Fear, dishonesty, anger, ignorance and lies don't work here.
12:13 PM on 03/31/2010
That didn't contradict what he said, Eroy. I have an idea, get off your lazy butt and take a camera to a tea party and film all of this violence that you are talking about. MSNBC would pay big money for that footage so they could add some credibility to their propaganda.
05:13 PM on 04/01/2010
eroy:

Funny how you want to rant and rave about the right but are not willing to listen to any voice of sanity. You are the one trying to creat fear by telling people they are "on the wrong website".

As long as others are allowed to post here maybe someone might be swayed by a rational idea.
01:32 PM on 03/31/2010
Get it through YOUR head that most people don't consider the ability to buy - get it through YOUR head the word is BUY - affordable health care insurance a government entitlement. They consider it a guarantee under the Bill of Rights, pursuing a life of liberty & happiness, neither of which can happen if your life has been destroyed by unplanned, unforeseen medical challenges.

Get it through YOUR head that OMB has said and said and said again that there will be cost savings to the American people, and a chance to pay down the debt, when more people are fairly insured.

Get it through YOUR head that violence isn't always about bricks through windows, or snipers on rooftops. Violence at its very least is enough angry voices and purple-ish faces hollering enough horrible, demeaning, violent words to cause damage to one's very soul.

Rationalization is what people who write remarks like yours do when they are afraid that someone having something more means you have something less.

Get it through your head that Nancy Pelosi and Obama can't legislate a cure for cancer.

Get it through your head that more families are ruined by the IRS than lack of healthcare.

Get it through your head that OMB was off on medicaid/mediacare/SS by over 4000%

Feeling good about good intentions, honey, is fine. Feeling good about good intentions, honey, when you know they'll fail is quite sick.

What Fox News and the Republicans fail to realize is that they "think" they are in control of this, but what they have got is a rabid dog (no offense meant to rabid dogs) and it might be great while they are tearing up the opposing party BUT you can't control rabid dogs. They will turn in a heartbeat and tear THEM up without a second thought.
