A new start-up is founded every 20 minutes in Berlin and the industry is set to produce 100,000 new jobs by 2020. Some of my favorite start-ups in Berlin are:

HELLOFRESH

What it does: Delivery of meal kits.
Hello Fresh, a Rocket internet company, delivers pre-measured ingredients and recipes so users can make meals at home. The service is available in seven countries and serves more than four million meals a month. Its 2015 revenue were 70 million Euros. In September 2015 HelloFresh raise 75 million Euros from Scottish investment firm Baile Gifford, at a 2.6 billion valuation.

AUCTIONATA

What it does: Online Auction House.
Auctionata's lifestream auction broadcasts enable users around the world to bid at any time from any device. The company recorded total net sales of 31.5 million Euros in 2014, and 35.7 million Euros in the first half of 2015. In March MCI Management led a 42 million Euros Series C round.

STILNEST

What it does: Jewelry eCommerce.
Stilnest empowers social media icons to create their own jewelry collections and thus become a product brand. Stilnest is using 3D printing to shorten product cycles by 4x compared to the industry and produce on-demand. The company serves customers in 65 countries and broke the one million USD revenue mark last year. Stilnest received one million in venture capital from the Investment Bank Berlin and mail order merchant Klingel.

MONOQI

What it does: Discovers and curates the best in international design.
Monoqi collects hard-to-find and limited-edition design products, making 100 of them available each day for a short time on its site. To date the company has worked with more than 7,000 international designers. In February Monoqi acquired the assets of former online furniture marketplace Mydeco to help its expansion into the UK market. In 2013 Condé Nast Germany acquired a 26% stake in Monoqi.

KITCHEN STORIES

What it does: Interactive cooking app.
Kitchen Stories brings unique cooking experiences back to your home kitchen, offering inspiring video recipes and simple step-by-step photo instructions for easy-to-cook dishes. Special features like the auto-generated shopping list, quantity calculator, and integrated timer, plus the sleek design and availability in 12 languages. Since it's launch in February 2014, Kitchen Stories was named among the "Best New Apps" of 2014 by Apple and has reached over 5 million downloads in over 150 countries.
