American artist Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) is undoubtedly one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century. Known for his black and white photography of male and female nudes inspired by the sculpture of classical antiquity and the Renaissance, Mapplethorpe's skills also shine forth in a series of stunning flower portraits found in the 2012 Mapplethorpe Flowers Poster Calendar.
