Sex in your 50s?

Do couples in their 50s really still have sex? Well hell yes! It's not just the realm of the young and beautiful, as the media and advertising would have us believe.

Meryl Streep is a successful bakery owner and single mother of three who starts a secret affair with her ex-husband, played by Alec Baldwin, in It's Complicated. It is the best example of couples doing it in their 50s. Do couples in their 50s really still have sex? Well hell yes! It's not just the realm of the young and beautiful, as the media and advertising would have us believe. Portrayed by mainstream you need to fit the following criteria to be sexually active;

•Young, preferably between 18 - 35
•Sexy Bikini Body
•Trim and Toned
•Good Looking
•Outdoor adventures
•Unattached
•Size 36
•Sun loving
•Carefree

How so different in reality! In your 50s the bikini is long thrown out or worn only on special occasions, generally this means when no-one is around. Sexy bikini body is for husband's /wife's eyes only.

Recently started at the gym? Sure you can have a trim body in your 50s, but those damn floppy bits just won't budge.

And what is good looking, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As far as outdoor adventures goes, a lot of 50ers have discovered the great pleasures of gardening. You can't get more outdoors than that!

Unattached, I've heard on the grapevine women in their 50's are called cougars and are very attractive to the younger species of tiger.

Size 36, we all used to be, not any- more! Does your wardrobe still hold remnants of these past years? Over the years women especially see their body change many a time, through pregnancies and change of life or menopause. Illness or stress also plays a role in shaping a body.

Sun lover, who hasn't had their time basking in the full midday sun, soaked in olive or coconut oil. Mind you coconut oil has a natural UV of 20. Apparently raspberry oil, if you can get your hands on it, has a natural UV of 40.

Last but not least, carefree. Can it be possible at 50 to be carefree to go off travelling on adventures at a whim, travel the world with a back pack?

A thought provoking subject being carefree, whereby you can analyse it from many perspectives. Yes we have bills to pay, yes we have a family to care for, yes we have mortgages, yes we all need money to exist, yet does this stop our ability to be carefree. We live in a more or less democratic society, in the Western world with all its comforts and culture of luxury. We get to make choices in life. We don't have to be tied down to a mindset of ball and chain! We can choose how we live our lives.

Being carefree is simply a state of mind; choose to set yourself free, take pleasure in the simple things of life. Admire the sunset, take a walk in the rain, and listen to your favourite music. Do those things that take you to a place of inner peace and tranquility, think of a time perhaps where you felt foot loose and fancy free!

So do people have sex in their 50s? You bet your bottom dollar! Although like Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin sometimes you need to be pretty innovative to get away from the young adults who haven't quite left home yet.
