One day I was reading on the internet and I discovered a fact that read the average human has 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day. Growing up my Mom and Dad had always preached positivity to me time and time again, but I never really understood the importance of what they were saying until I read the fact above. When you break down the 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day to minutes it's 35 to 38 thoughts per minute.

At first when I read that fact I was honestly enamored with myself that I and the average human had the capability to think that much! The subject of always staying positive came about when I was 10 years old and I believe that is one of the reasons I am still here today typing this blog. If I didn't believe it before the numbers sold me on how powerful thoughts truly are.

When you are thinking something so often it eventually becomes your reality because your thoughts are shaping your perspective which in turn shapes you. The only person in control of the 70,000 thoughts flooding through your head every single day is you. Others may influence the thoughts you have but you are the only one who decides what you think and the kinds of thoughts you allow to form in your brain.

When you are faced with any choice in life good or bad you can choose to look at it in two ways, glass half full or half empty. That goes without saying for anything you are facing in life. After my cancer diagnosis in 2008 my life presented me with those choices and my family showed me how to go to the snowball of positivity. I was blessed to have people in my life to give me an example to look up to. When you are facing anything in life your attitude, will, and faith are the biggest factors that contribute because of the power of your thoughts. During years of chemotherapy treatments I was told time and time by my family and doctors you are going to be okay, you are going to survive, stay positive! When I was sick if I would have allowed myself to view it as a negative and dwell on the bad side of things I can honestly say I don't know where I would be today or even if I would be. Because 70,000 times a day and 38 times a minute I thought I can get healthy, I will get healthy, I am going to survive and I did. By the grace of God and the power of my thoughts and the thoughts of others around I am here eight years after that diagnosis typing these very words.

Thoughts can be like quicksand or snowballs. When I am describing the power of negative thoughts I always compare them to quicksand, because they are easy to get stuck in. When you allow fear and doubt and negativity to seep into your thoughts you are allowing for yourself to get stuck and eventually drown on the glass half empty side of life. When you think so much a day, approximately 70,000 times things like I can't, I won't, I will fail, then you are going to start believing that. Once you start believing the negativity then it's going to become your reality because you are going to hesitate, hold yourself back and not have faith that things will be okay. You are going to see the things that go wrong and not pick out the many things that are going your way. Negative thoughts are controlling and you are the only person who can allow yourself to get out of the quicksand and change.

Positive thoughts are like snowballs rolling down a huge mountain. Once you have one tiny thought of positivity it will start slowly rolling, getting bigger with each spin. With Every roll of the snowball it will pick up the snow in its path eventually leading to one gigantic rolling snowball and no longer seeming like a huge hill. Starting with one positive thought can start the momentum to the 69,999 other thoughts. One thought will turn to two and so forth and so on but only if you allow it to. With each passing minute that goes by if you allow just a few of the 38 thoughts that pass through to be positive you are going to see a change in your life. Once you start sipping from the glass half full, you are going to start moving in your life because you are going to believe you can!

The thoughts you think are so powerful because they shape how you view the world and in which way you look at things. You are the only person in control of your thoughts!
