How's your skin lately? Clear, radiant and glowy? And your hair? Thick and shiny and lustrous? If not, maybe you need to take a look at what you're eating. Eating more of these foods, say experts, could help beautify you...
Of course, you already know the importance of skin health and hydration (so I hope you're drinking plenty of H2O, laying low on the soda, and having a cup of green tea now and then). But, to boost your skin even more, consider this advice from registered dietitians Willow and Stephanie from C&J Nutrition, who shared some tips over at Whitney Port recently:
*Eat more orange foods: "Oranges contain vitamin C, a necessary nutrient for your body to make collagen, the component in your skin that gives it elasticity and firmness, and keeps the fibers that create each hair together," note the RDs. "Plus, beta carotene, found in carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, mango, and other orange fruits and veggies is needed for cells to grow, and since our hair cells are constantly in a state of growth, it's a VIP. And guys, we're naturally orange foods. Sorry, Cheetos don't count!"
*Get plenty of iron-packed protein: "We naturally shed hair each month, but not eating enough protein can slow the rate that the hairs grow back, causing hair to thin. Iron is a super VIP for helping your red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles and skin cells. Get iron-packed protein by eating an assortment of beans, tofu, edamame, lean beef, chicken, black-eyed peas, lentils, and eggs."
*Eat your garbanzo beans: Garbanzo beans, or chickpeas, contain zinc. "If you don't get enough zinc, it can slow the rate at which hair grows and lead to hair loss and can also cause red, flaky skin. These delicious beans also contain vitamin B-6 and folate, which are like a nutritional Fed-Ex--they help your body make the cells that deliver all the nutrition from your healthy diet directly to each hair and hair follicle!"
Love these tips, and I'm feeling a craving coming on for garbanzo beans right now--you?
