Yep, it’s another Starbucks hack—but your tables and desks are gonna love this one: As it turns out, Starbucks lids aren’t just for covering your drink. Instead, they have a higher—yet thoroughly practical—calling that just might save your surfaces.

Interest piqued? Just take the cold drink’s lid off, flip it over, and set your cup right in the middle.

Boom! It’s a coaster.

No more sweaty drinks leaving telltale signs of caffeine dependency on coffee tables or work desks. Plus, it’s free (!). Seriously, we’re surprised we didn’t suspect this before: There are even handy notches on the underside of Starbucks lids to clutch your drink and ensure spill-free mornings (and afternoons and nights, if we’re being honest). Let’s give a major shout-out to the genius product engineers who have been waiting patiently for us mortals to catch on.

Tip: If you are spill-prone, don’t be shy about asking for two lids for your drink. The barista will understand.

And with all the bright and flavorful new drinks the coffee mega-chain has released this summer (we’re talking Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiatos and sangria teas, Affogato-style Frappucinos, delicious-looking purple concoctions, and Italian-style granitas), this tip has come just in time. (And that’s not even to mention 32 drinks you can order from the secret menu!)
