New Mexico congressional candidate Bill McCamley (who's running for right wing Republican Senate candidate Steve Pearce's seat), just came up with a very creative idea for taking the rug out from under self-financing candidates. In this case, the self-funded candidate in question is his oil company executive Harry Teague. His move has gotten enormous media attention and has likely succeeded in making voters look at future Teague ads with a healthy dose of skepticism.
From the AP:
A Democratic candidate for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District has written a $47.50 check to his campaign.Bill McCamley of Las Cruces staged today's event to contrast his opponent's campaign loans worth $475,000.
McCamley's off to a great start and is leading Teague in polls, but needs financial support to win. You can support McCamley's impressive grassroots effort here.
