Goodbye Dog Days, Hello Fall

Others covet antiques, I collect fashion. I love it. I love it more than anything could describe. Designers are artists in their own respect -- they create and we ogle.

It's fall, one of my favorite times of the entire year. Though September often means more work, it almost always guarantees something new and exciting -- whether that comes in the form of work or play, I'll take either. My favorite part of fall is the chance of a new year ahead. Though it may loom at times, it is full of opportunity. We just finished Fashion Week in New York, though busier for some of us, during the span of the past week I published my own fashion blog, The Fashion Dish, and started blogging for the Huffington Post. I couldn't imagine a better way to start off the month. I'm already exhausted and can only imagine what I'll feel like when summer comes knocking once more, but for now I'm enjoying the early fall breeze, the last weekend of summer, and choosing carefully items to add to my fall wardrobe.

Others covet antiques, I collect fashion. I love it. I love it more than anything could describe. Fashion tells a story. Designers are artists in their own respect. They create and we ogle. Coming down runways this fall I watched in awe as beautiful collections came together, revealing months of hard work. To me fashion isn't just about the label -- it's so much more. I love to collect shoes because each makes a statement, even my motorcycle boots that I've had for too long to admit tell a story and have significance. I also love to read about fashion. Though I'm new to the fashion blogging world I have friends who have written for years. I watch as they work, running from show to show to show, stopping for a break or lunch, and then moving again. I look to my friends as inspiration, as people who take themselves as a blank canvas adding statement pieces to define who they are. They never let their clothes wear them, and always practice the coveted art: less is more.

Trends may be predefined by the seasons or the runways, but fashion never is. I love the fresh look of leggings with a cashmere sweater and hair down. It makes a statement. Not because of its complexity, but because of its simplicity. You don't expect it. Many runways were filled with the simple and the colorful redefining the very essence of "the look." Expect a spring and summer full to the brim of knee-length dresses, pops of color in unexpected ways, simple fresh faces, and lots more. Until then relish in your fall wardrobe. Don't go out and buy more, but go "shopping" in your own closet. Remember how to make a summer dress transition into a fall piece (with tights, a thick cardigan, and cute boots). Pair a toned-down face with bright blue nails from Chanel's new fall collection. Play with it. Toy with how you define fashion. It's ever-changing. Make it about you. You have one first impression with every person you meet, make yours count.
