Are There No Real Numbers?

Joe Scarborough says only 10% of FEMA contracts were with local companies in the Katrina-affected area. Yet Louisiana Governor Blanco puts the number at 44%. Can they both be right?

Thursday night, on MSNBC's Scarborough Country, host Joe Scarborough assailed FEMA, the popular target these days, for the fact that only 10% of FEMA contracts were with local companies in the Katrina-affected area. Yet, here's Louisiana Governor Blanco today at a small-business seminar, courtesy of WWL TV:

Blanco also said she would push for more hurricane recovery contracts to go to Louisiana companies. To date, 44% of those contracts have been awarded to Louisiana firms, representing 31% of the total money amount awarded, she said.

Can they both be right?
