More and more stuff falls into the "amazing, but not surprising" file, and this story in the NYT is definitely at the top of the pile. It concerns a concocted female pop group, the Pussycat Dolls, and the fact that their record company has concluded a deal for PD toys. The money quote, from Hasbro's Sharon John:

Ms. John conceded the Pussycat Dolls packaging might be a bit racy for Hasbro consumers. "Bratz has pushed the envelope in this area and has been extraordinarily successful," she said. "I don't think we're trying to push the envelope any further, but we're trying to add an aspect of realism. These are people that have real careers."

That's why, in the entire NYT Business Section story, you read the name of the group's record company executive, the names of toy company officials, the name of the LA choreographer who concocted the group -- but never, anywhere in the piece, do you read the names of any of the women who dance (and sing?) as the Pussycat Dolls. Real careers indeed.
