Jim Lehrer--Mastering the Softball

The latest stop on President Bush's Please Believe Me This Time Tour was PBS' Newshour last night. On it, he made a newsworthy concession:

Look, I had a choice to make, Jim, and that is - one - do what we're doing. And one could define that maybe a slow failure.

In the Administration's current timeline, things began turning bad with the bombing of the mosque in, as the President said, "February or March". But as recently as three months ago, during the campaign, Bush repeatedly said "we're winning" the war in Iraq. Surely Jim Lehrer confronted the President with that seeming paradox? Surely not.
