Everybody here remembers the scolding President Bush gave to the new Spanish government. That government, elected shortly after a terrorist attack on Madrid, replaced the staunchly pro-Iraq war government of Spain, and Bush's response, as the new regime announced it was pulling troops out of Iraq, was to denounce it. (In fairness, Sen. Kerry expressed disapproval with the abrupt withdrawal as well.) But there was a fusillade of attacks on Spain for "aiding the terrorists."
