MSNBC photojournalist Tony Zumbado talking about his horrific experiences inside the New Orleans Convention Center, started referring to the footage he'd shot. The anchor, who until two years ago worked at MTV, said, "We couldn't air that." Zumbado said, "I didn't shoot half of what I saw. I thought what I shot we could air." He and Chris Lawrence of CNN, who was an eyewitness to the Convention Center scenes this morning, have barely been able to contain their outrage at the scene of so many people abandoned by all legally constituted authority.

BTW: the price of airing unsubstantiated rumors of violence: Zumbado reported seeing dozens of buses outside the city this morning, not moving. When he asked why, he was told that a couple of drivers refused to go in, having heard it was unsafe. "It's not unsafe to be here," Zumbado said.

UPDATE, AND ASIDE TO COMMENTER JAMES: I wasn't stating that the city was safe, I was quoting Zumbado, WHO IS THERE, saying that coming in to the Convention Center area to rescue those people is not unsafe. And, James, FYI, no levees had broken on Monday morning at 7:50 PT, when the Fox anchor said. The Industrial Canal breach didn't happen until later that day, and the 17thSt. Canal floodwall breach didn't happen until midnight Monday or later. Reporting what hasn't happened yet gets you into the Criswell Hall of Fame.
