Sacred Heart Students Stage <em>Heads </em> on Theatre Row

Leveraging his experience as a Tony-nominated producer, Jerry Goehring - who is also Director of Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University - has devised what he believes is a theatre major like no other. With the goal of providing undergraduates non-academic-world experience, the school's new theatre arts program launched earlier this year.

Last month students enrolled in the program teamed up with working Broadway professionals to produce a limited-run of the brand-new play Heads. "We rented the Beckett Theatre on 42nd Street and cast professional actors, hired a professional director, Laura Savia, and let the students design, run and be a part of this production," says Goehring.

The E.M. Lewis play has been described as "a heart-wrenching story about finding hope and intimacy in an environment with seemingly no way out." Sophomore Peter McHugh, who was sound designer for Heads, discovered that "you have to be very creative after reading the script."

Alexandra Kostis, a junior, and production and stage manager for Heads, adds: "It was an incredible experience getting to work hands-on in the field, a field I hope to become a part of one day.
