How Not to Fire People

The top brass of the hapless New York Mets have had up to their ears with the team's crappy play. Unfortunately, when it came to addressing the problem, they put on a clinic in abominable management practices.

The New York Mets Guide to Bad Business

* Take forever to make decisions
* Deliberate and agonize publicly
* Tell your employees if they don't improve their performance you'll fire them--and then don't fire them
* Finally decide to fire your employees anyway, after they improve their performance
* Fire them by email, at 3:30 in the morning, when they're 3,000 miles away

The Mets didn't deserve Randolph.

Minaya hires a bunch of superstars and then wonders why they don't gel?

Flushing isn't that far from the Bronx, you'd think they could've learned something from the Yankees.

This firing is a blessing to Willie Randolph. He doesn't need that nightmare in Queens.

According to the N.Y. Times, Randolph was notified of the firing when he got back to the hotel after the Angels game last night, in person by General Manager Minaya ... the press was notified at 3:15 a.m. by e-mailed press release.

So, was he "fired by e-mail"?
