I am NOT Gay.

Larry Craig isn't gay. Thank god cuz we don't really want him to be. Ick. Now that he has told the country that he isn't gay in a press conference, I am so relieved.

I don't want him to be gay because he is such a pathetic figure. Bearing his outrage but not his shame before the cameras today. Fine Senator. Don't be gay. There are lots of people who don't identify as gay but DO have sex with guys (or women) sometimes. But those people usually don't have the power to pursue discriminatory laws against gays and lesbians or promote hostile viewpoints towards us in the halls of Congress. We all have enough information about how hypocritical it would be if someone like Senator Craig were to actually BE gay and vote in such an anti-gay manner. I won't bother making that point since I frankly don't think voting to hurt people is justified no matter what your sexual orientation.

Ironically on the LGBT blogs and "insider lists" today there was a huge discussion about whether or not Senator Craig should garner some sympathy from the community because of the historic antipathy that exists towards police entrapment methods against, particularly, gay men.

But seeing his performance, I have lost any notion of sympathy. The guy practically SPIT it out that he wasn't gay. Because if he WAS gay, then that would somehow explain his publicly lewd behavior.

Like I said, ick.

I feel bad for one reason for this guy. How awful is it when your friends and peers turn their back on you? It wasn't straight sex...so he doesn't get the repug sympathy Vitter gets and the repugs screwed up the Foley sitation so bad they have to hang this turkey out to dry so as to try and reestablish their ntigay stance with the fundie base.

I too would like to cheer that a destructive, homophobic hypocrite was exposed and ousted. Unfortunately, Craig wasn't indicted and convicted by us for his anti-gay politics.

Craig confessed to a misdemeanor, then was drummed out of a job by his own homophobic party because his crime involved a seamy expression in a public bathroom of his obvious sexual attraction to other men. He was not drummed out for his anti-gay demagoguery.

Meanwhile, after being caught when the DC Madam's client list became public, equally anti-gay Republican Senator David Vitter confessed to renting female prostitutes to wee wee on him while he wore diapers. In spite of this degrading publicity, Republicans didn't demand Vitter resign from the Senate.

Is the fact that the closeted gay Senator Larry Craig can't be trusted to go to the bathroom alone enough reason to fire him? If so, why is Sen. Vitter's well publicized use of hookers for water sports insufficient reason to fire him?

Is this double standard for gay and straight Americans something that reasonable people ought to endorse?

They are all over Washington DC. Larry Craig was in the club. The crazy part of this story is the analysis of the talking heads. I believe they're way off the mark. Larry Craig isn't ashamed of being gay. He is greedy, he is evil and most likely diagnosable as a psychopath. He loved being part of the club. All the perks... travel, great salary, pension, best health care plan on the planet, access to the pages. It's such a long list, there's not enough time in the day to go through it. These guys don't mind throwing people under the bus for their own personal gain. In fact, I would imagine they enjoyed it. Craig's voting record is just one example of this. I too oppose cops targeting gays for what should be perfectly legal and acceptable behavior, but what he did in an airport's public toilet should be neither legal nor acceptable. It's a disgrace and doesn't help the cause of gay people who just want to get on with their lives and hope that some day all equal rights will be a given and not a battle.
