Arianna Discusses How 'Herman Cain Is The Latest Balloon Boy' On 'This Week' (VIDEO)

Posted: 11/06/11 12:07 PM ET

Arianna appeared on 'This Week With Christiane Amanpour' to discuss how Herman Cain's sexual harassment allegations scandal will effect his chances for the GOP nomination.

"I think this is more of a problem with our media culture," she said. "Herman Cain is the latest balloon boy, everybody's obsessed with it. If you really ask commentators off the air whether they really think it's probable that Herman Cain even before these allegations would be president...they would tell you no, so why are we obsessing about it?"

She also suggested that, despite performing weakly in recent polls, Jon Hunstman could end up proving a viable choice for the nomination.

"As all the frontrunners are imploding one after the other...Jon Hunstman may be the last man standing," she said.

Who invited the cast of Green Acres, to a round table discussion? Those silly ABC execs.......I love how they make funny mistakes, it's so cute... :-)

In the past given the sorry state of the economy my guess is that if the GOP ran Huntsman against President Obama the GOP would win in a landslide.

But given the divisiveness introduced by ultraconservatives since Obama taking office I don’t see how Huntsman can get through the primaries. And if he did, it's not hard to imagine an independent challenge coming from the Right by someone with name recognition with nothing to lose (perhaps Newt?) thereby splitting the conservative vote. The Right may have ended up shooting themselves in the foot with the Teaparty.

Obama will never end the wars and bring the troops home. Even those in Iraq that have to leave the country are being stationed in countries around Iraq. So is Obama planning on attacking Iran or does he have something else in mind. He did send some troops to central Africa. Enough money has been spent and enough people have died. Bring the troops home. We are neither wanted or needed.

This media frenzy is the BEST thing that happened to Herman Cain's campaign. It has taken the spotlight off his total lack of experience, knowledge or viable plan for the future. He planted the story himself.

All true except that he didn't plant the story and never had any chance of being nominated. I don't understand why Huntsman hasn't attracted more attention - he's very conservative and can think a little better than the other weekly favorites.

I agree, but the right cannot stand Huntsman. He will not admit it but he is a moderate, He does admit that he believes in evolution and climate change which are big no-nos for the right.

Jon Huntsman is the best candidate they've got - but of course, he's not appreciated in that party. Want to be Dem, Jon?

ArkayMI: "Nope, the best GOP president after Teddy Roosevelt has been Eisenhower" -- Ike had two recessions, lied about the U-2 flight shot down by the Soviets and without his interference there would have been no Vietnam war.

George Will won the heart of this amateur historian with the reference to Henry of Navarre, AKA Henry IV of France. I only with Henry was a candidate this year.

Herman Cain planted that story - it's a windfall for him.

Otherwise, the press might ask him about his total lack of experience, knowledge or how about the 'oranges and apples' in his whacky 999 plan.

The problem is the primaries are decided in Iowa and New Hampshire. Candidates like Bachmann, Cain and Perry would never get out of single digits if voters in the large population states had a voice. True, voters in the rural states have an outsized voice in the final election as well because of the Electoral College, but nothing like in the primaries.

All of this discussion is a waste of time, as Barack Obama and the Dems will Flush DC and every state that is infested by the GOTP. Demographics put 45% of Tea-people in Nursing Homes by 2016, when the GOTP and Wall street will lose their butts to Truth, Justice, and the American Way

Although Huntsman would be a good choice he doesn't have a chance with that crowd. Newt is quietly positioning himself to catch the votes of the Cain meltdown and the Anybody but Mitt faction. Not my choice but we're talking Repub thinking here.
03:26 PM on 11/06/2011
I agree - I think Newt is positioning himself to be the next anyone-but-Romney guy.
03:34 PM on 11/06/2011
Newt can position himself perfectly, but will never get the nomination. Too much bad political and personal history with Mr. Gingrich. Besides how would he ever afford all those baubles for his young wife on a President's salary. Huntsman would be the perfect "anything but Romney" alternative.

Cain is sinking, this from Reuters/Ipsos opinion survey found that his favorability rating among Republican voters had declined significantly in the past week, from 66 percent to 57 percent.

That 57% of any group think this man is a viable candidate for the Presidency makes me fear for the future of my country.

He has NO experience
He has limited knowledge (thinks China is preparing to get nuclear capability - they've had it for decades)
He has a nutty tax plan that even he can't explain

Of course, he 'their' Black - whatever that means.
