Arianna appeared on MSNBC's "Hardball" last night along with Andrea Mitchell and poured cold water over the rumors that Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are going to switch positions for the 2012 election. Citing HuffPost White House correspondent Sam Stein, she dismissed the theory as nothing more than speculation that will not happen.

Hillary as VP/Potus is looking to the past to solve the problems of the future. We cannot be in this advanced society yet run it like it was 1950. Just plain stupid. She has too much baggage. Just brings up the feud again.

Obama is toast in 2012. I bet he won't even run.

If he does, he better find his long form birth certificate. Some states will require it.

Getting past "popular personalities"...Joe Biden has more experience than both Obama and Clinton...and it LOL funny that this is news!
It Should be...President Biden, Vice President Obama.....and Hillery Clinton...wife of former President Clinton...as wife of former President Clinton...and nothing else!

Do we really have to talk about this for 2 years and speculate and speculate - was it a slow news day and they had to bring this up or what?? Let's drag the discussion behind the car for a few 1000 miles and keep rehashing it - shouldn't we try to get through the November elections behind us??

Whoever created the rumor, and no matter if there's truth to it... fact is it would be a very good move that would make for a far stronger re-election bid than the current ticket.

it would be cool if Arianna was the final word on things like this, but honestly - she's not.

funny- that's what I was thinking
though more sarcastically=She says it so it must be so.

I was pleased however that she didn't slash at Hillary and accuse her of sabatoge treachery and undermining.

Maybe things do change.

I think Matthews gives a clear indication of how the Washington press corpse works and thinks. They imagine scenarios (Clinton moving to DoD) then create stories. It's all fiction, but we in the audience don't realize that because we don't expect them to be fiction writers.

03:58 PM on 10/07/2010
Yeah, I agree with Tom Sutpens question, how will that happen? Is she going to primary Obama? Is Obama going to step down? Is she going to run as an Independent or write in? Please explain your thoughts?

This rumor won't die a proper death because there's just so much buyer's remorse. But that's how it goes.

People traded her off for him, and that's that.

And rightly so. She ran a wretched, disgraceful campaign; introducing all the themes that the Tea Party now embraces.

Last time I checked it was still 2010. The media is hilarious, especially Hardball. Matthews will be the first to call out the media for wasting it's time on nonsense stories and political gossip. Arianna explained perfectly what the "story" was but Matthews just cant let it go. He's got to hypothesize. What a joke.

Saul Alinsky feared the middle class could be driven to a right-wing viewpoint, "making them ripe for the plucking by some guy on horseback promising a return to the vanished verities of yesterday." His stated motive: "I love this g*d dam country, and we're going to take it back.

Alinsky saw the future ...

Chris Matthews has his history wrong. In the presidential elections since 1944, 11 out of the 32 candidates have been former vice presidents. Maybe the odds of winning aren't great, but why should Hillary care about that right now? She has to be the candidate first, and being vice president definitely puts you on the fast track.

Also, in that clip of her, you'll notice she did NOT say "under no circumstances would I agree to replace Joe Biden." In fact she kind of sounded like she'd been actively thinking it over.

Which is not to say that Obama would actually do it. But it's a fascinating possibility, I haven't decided how I feel about it...
02:42 PM on 10/07/2010
Chris needs a story line that he can hammer for a few days. He always insists he is right. It is common sense that Joe Biden is not going to step down, and Hilary is not going to step up. She can move there whenever she wants in the future.
