Arianna appeared on MSNBC's "Countdown" Wednesday night to discuss President Obama's Ohio speech from earlier Wednesday, in which Obama refused to consider extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and dared Republicans to keep fighting for them.

"I wish he had been as fired up for the last 20 months as he was today. This was definitely the best speech we've gotten from him since he's been in the White House," Arianna told host Keith Olbermann. "There's no question that he drew a clear line in the sand. It was really more like a moat that he filled with man-eating crocodiles."

However, Arianna said, "one speech does not change the narrative." Obama needs to "keep making it clear that he is for the middle class, and the Republicans are not," she said, noting that "during the campaign, Obama said the middle class was his North star -- that was really the essence of his campaign."

"I've spent a whole year writing this book on the assault on the middle class," Arianna added, "making it very clear that nobody, not even the super-rich that John Boehner supports, would want to live in a country that is really a third-world country when the middle class crumbles and you have the super-rich and everyone else, the super-rich living behind gates with their kids protected by security guards against kidnapping. I mean, that's not America, that's not the America of upward mobility, of the American dream."

His speech, and I listened to it in its entirety, is nothing more than campaigning. More broken promises.

Keep pounding on the Republicans. They can't defend because they have ZERO ideas except hatred and obstruction. JOhn Boehner should start measuring the drapes in his own home, coz he will be spending a lot of time there after NO-vember 3rd.

I agree. Defend your position. Never back down. But start talking in PLAIN English about what good has been done and what good will be done in the future by keeping this administration if office. Break it down to individual benefits to the people. Repeat it as many times as you can. I am scared to death the republicans and their propaganda will regain power. It will be the total demise of the middle class and probably this country.

I agree...

John Stewart's complete @nnihilation of Tim Kaine, should be the final wake up call as well.

Everybody has to be on board, with the same enthusiasm as the Prez.

Tim F@iled miser@bly, and that has to stop.

Oh yes Lets go back to a man that can't but a sentence together, made us so unpopular as a countr
that traveling became hazardous to your piece of mind, Healthcare went to hell literally, Education
was given the title No Child left Behind and a series of tests that Bush couldn't have passed or Quayle for that matter.
The Banking system that Bush left behind bellied up a few months before his time
came to an end and now his wife laments not doing more while in office? Some of you are really
beyond belief in your wishes and desires........................ Andrea

So few people showed up to hear President Obama speak in Ohio that at the last minute college kids were rounded up to fill seats. Compare that with the 500,000 that went to see Glen Beck and Sarah Palin in Washington a couple weeks ago.

75 seats were empty right before the Chosen One was about ready to address the little people...that is a fact - no exaggeration! I do think, however, that 500,000 may be a tad on the high end, but, could be possible.....
01:33 PM on 09/09/2010
Fail. 87,000 went to Washington. This 500,000 lie alone negates anything else you have to say. no credibility.

So just what have we seen Boehner contribute to the greater good, nothing, and no large donation
either for the greater good. Lets see people cant figure out why the President can't turn around the
last eight years in less than 18 months? Well where were your voices on spending 3 trillion on the wars ( the fake lets go too war, and maybe the real one.............
Where were your voices on deciding that you could not handle your own finances, going to school to become even partially educated( yes what did the republicans do for education? Oh Bush cancelled
financial help, Pell grants does this ring a bell, even Tony Blair keeps reminding us of what an absolute simpleton he was, perhaps he should have used one.Healthcare??? Andrea

Too bad she had to resort to an appearance on "Meltdown", or as some wags call it, "Countdown to No Viewers".

His speech generated so much excitement that his handlers had to frantically look for students to fill the seats before it began. Are you all fired up yet!

It's a fact but gman thinks it's cool to play the "my side is better than your side" thing. Keep it up buddy! Politics is pro-wrestling and you're one of the fans in the audience wearing a fox news shirt. United we stand... Do you actually understand that statement?

Tell it Arianna!

You should go on leave from HuffPost and, as a public service, start running Obama's communications. He still doesn't seem to understand the need to continuously communicate his vision (if he has one) to his base in particular and the American public at large.

I know you're busy creating a media empire but your country needs you...now. You've already proven that you are one of the greatest media forces in America (if not the world).

I'm not just blowing smoke. As someone once asked, "If not now, when? If not you, who?"

BTW: Yes, I'm ready to be your deputy communications czar.

LOL and you would make a great czar *although it's an odd term to use for a position in a democratic government*. I read that Obama hates the press. I'm beginning to suspect that they hate him back. He has to get over it and use them to get the necessary information out there. The populist wind that blows has completely imo blown over his accomplishments. The other pop notion put forth by the right is that he is a skeving politico. It appears that nothing could be further from the truth but still it's time to push back Hard. If he was a skeve the news would be a whole lot different !
