Palin needs to stand up against those who are holding her back...Unless she knows that she is being use as a trophy for the Republican Party..

I agree with Ariana. Democrats need to focus the race on the issues. On the economy and healthcare where we have the advantage. Anybody watching the RNC, will note that all they focused on was biography and Obama bashing. The Republicans will definitely lose, if the race is geared toward policies and not narrative and character. Palin's effect will diminish, if we stop focusing on irrelevant details of her life and stick to her policies and McCain's.

Sarah Palin does not give good speeches. Heck, she doesn't even write her speeches nor does she give any ideas. She's just a good actress and reader, in an attractive, non-prescription glasses package.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!

This is why John Bush won't turn her loose on the campaign trail alone. John will have to have Liebermann close by to correct him and Palin will need Lindsey close by to correct her. Is this what change is all about? Divisiveness and another 4 years like the last 8.

So Katrina Vanden Heuven says Palin "gives good speech" then claims she wasn't being sexist.

There is absolutely no place for that kind of gutter rhetoric in responsible journalism. If Ms. Vanden Heuven is one of The Nation's editors, it must not be much of a news organization.

How is that sexist? Yeah, the origin of the phrase may be sexUAL but it's so mainstream now it's like so many people saying "that's gay" (which i really hate btw) as a curse word. Even gay / open minded people say it, much to my own chagrin.

Yeah I hate it but it's no reason to slap my handin front of their face and refuse to listen to them anymore.

if you remove her from the picture.. and remove her badly framed sentence, does what she say make sense? If you have no answer you may be being disingenuous, intentionally or not.

Lose the 'sexist' cr@p and this is coming from a woman. That IS NOT the issue here. I question John McCains judgement on a 'hurry up' pick on the second highest office in this country. I don't care if she gives a good speech or not. What is this team going to do for the American people?! And no speeches please.

OBAMA / BIDEN '08!!!

They were waiting in the wings to call out sexism. I am a woman and I know sexist statment when I hear them...I am African American and I know racist undertones as well when I hear those kind of statements.

They played that sexist statement to deceive women...we're smarter than that...Republican women playing that card...just like Obama said they must "think we are stupid."

Northernview, no, Katrina wasn't being sexist, but your interpretation of her comments clearly is. You are also clearly a republican media basher.

But it's okay if O'Reilly ann Hannity participate in "gutter rhetoric" about Obama for the last 18 months. Grow up.

media, all of it, did M C Liar's bidding.

M C knows his media, knows how to use them to get the job done-and boy did they not disappoint.

there is nothing in this woman that says anything about the state of this union, or its future,

she represents the absolute worst of its past. the worst.

to see the pasty white people, with their lies and sarcastic, juvenile one liners.

who are these people in our nation that believe that dividing, snide, sarcastic, juvenile, lying, misleading game playing is going to get us where we need to go.

we have to fight with all we have this time around to make sure that these de ad enders do not steal this election.

We have to find a way to make it across the bridge to the 21 century. its sitting there waiting for us.

The problem I see is this, No one in the Obama campaign is addressing all of the LIES, HALF TRUTHS, and VERY MISLEADING comments, insults, and statements made by Palin, McCain, and the speakers at the RNC. And in the eyes of many, if you are not coming out strong and refuting these lies then it is perceived as being truth.

Most people in America who will be, or, might be leaning towards voting for the Republican ticket because of Palin could care less about checking the facts on factcheck.org. and will not be reading the articles in Time Magazine. But rather, they prefer to believe anything that McCain and Palin says as truth!

Most of these small town rural folks all over the country only read their hometown newspapers which will be slanted towards the canidate they support. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT SOMEONE IN THE OBAMA CAMP OR A SURROGATE NEEDS TO PUBLICLY COME OUT AND REFUTE THE LIES.

I also think that the Obama camp needs to ramp up ads telling folks how important it is for them to register to vote and to GET OUT AND VOTE for this Election. There are thousands of folks across this country who are not registered to vote, or have never voted because they think their vote will not make a difference because of the electoral voting process. MANY OF THESE UNREGISTERED VOTERS ARE PEOPLE WHO WILL MORE THAN LIKELY VOTE FOR OBAMA!

They say 0bama has a pretty extensive ground game and that he and his people are very active with the local press, where J W McBush has been having some trouble with local media.

great point mcantwell.

the Rethugs use this tactic of spreading lies b/c they no the vast majority will eat it up like ice cream on a sunday afternoon in the park. it is classic GOP strategy. makes me sick thinking about how devious they are.

Obama's camp needs to be better at strongly refuting all this BS.
Obama needs to go on the attack more.

If Palin was unattractive, more people would see her for the conniving, mean spirited, self serving person she is. It is amazing that our country makes decisions about who they like based on High School mentality. (this person is cute so they must be smart and "cool") barff!!!

Thank you for this article. I'm beginning to see that this is yet another ploy to take the focus off Mcc and the campaign's lack of vision and stance on issues. We should be attacking Mcc because he's the one running for pres. and not P@lin. It is his judgment and character that should be in question, besides correcting the lies against Sen. O.b.ama that has become a central focus of their campaign, We should also be questioning Mcc as a maverick. If one steps back a moment and reflect, you will see that his characteristic persona as a maverick emerged under pressure. Prior to the emergence of the maverick persona Mcc had many questionable aquaintences and a shady past surrounding his glory as a P OW. Once his career was at stake he became a maverick, but his party didn't go for this maverick stance and he paid dearly in the 2000 election. He became submissive to their ways driven by his own ambition to be pres. He morphed into the very same people he rallied against by aligning his campaign with everything he had once stood against. Now that he is under pressure again to win this election his cry is that he is a maverick that we can rely on. My question is what kind of a maverick has he become and who will he be fighting for?

Arianna, please give us more of your insight on how to win... since it has been demonstrated that lies work and these people are adept at telling them (often and loudly and now in a shrill voice).

I totally agree with Arianna. We need to stick to the non-tabloid facts on BOTH Palin and McCain. We cannot go after her family.
There are so many things they lied about at the RNC that we don't have to go after her family.

Stick to the facts. Let the undecided know that they are MORE OF THE SAME.

Throughout his political career when about to be "caught out" McCain has orchestrated an apology. Last night was no different. He was trying to make people believe that after 26 years in Washington with constant close ties to lobbyists he was going to turn over a new leaf. One problem, his campaign is full of lobbyists. Now he is already seeking to close down the inquiry in Alaska on Palin's abuse of power. This is a re-run of the last five years. McCain takes over from Bush and Palin is Cheney in a skirt.
