The whole cholesterol theory is wrong. Bill Clinton is being scammed by scirntifically unsound vegam zealots. Meat ios amajor part of our diet with th elong chain fatty acids being very important EPA and DHA.

Ancel Keys was a fraud ( the man who started the cholesterol myth) Google ANTHONY COLPO

Sorry, T. Colin Campbell is a liar and a fraud in his book. The China Study 's data does NOT match what his book says and DENISE MINGER PROVED IT.

Google her.

Go Bill - so amazing! The China Study, which is a book Bill references, is truely worthwhile if you haven't read it. It is one of the most well researched and easy to understand books on the impact of the food we eat to our illness / health in our bodies. Being a vegan / vegetarian "plant based diet", which can seem so extreme (as it did to me when I chowed down a steak), can easily turn into a very easy to accomplish and worthy task; a true win-win-win situation. You help yourself (healthier body, spirit & mind), you help the planet (fewer resources utilized, fewer rainforests cut down, etc), and you can choose to not participate in the industralized harming / pain to animals. (To me, if you really look into factory farming practices, and the unnecessary pain we cause today so that we can eat meat breakfast, lunch and dinner for the lowest cost, it's pretty sickening. When you go through the drive thru, or buy a plastic wrapped boneless package of meat in the grocery store, it is easy to distance yourself from the procoess to how it got there. It is worth taking a look, to find out how you impact the other people, animals, and life on this planet, and make sure it is in line with your personal beliefs.

This is why humans have health problems. Food is fuel. It's not supposed to matter whether or not it tastes good.

I can already see a huge improvement in Mr. Clinton and know it will work for him. I do think he is wrong it's much higher success than 82% if you factor out people whom *really* do take it to heart (many lie becasue they can't stop eating cr*ppy food) and who have special health issues with cholesterol beyond what diet affects.

It's too bad in our society here in the US we are brainwashed by corporations and media to feel empowered by excess of unhealthy lifestyles and dangerous diets.

Almost 100% of the last 2 to 3 generations only change their behavior after an illness occurs, though I am inspired by the previous and current generations changing this behavior. It's thrilling to see the newest generations taking healthy diets and lifestyles seriously from childhood.

It takes an enormous amount of discipline to change your diet so drastically, even with the fear of death to inspire you. Very few manage to do what President Bill Clinton is doing now.

Right on, Bill! My husband who has Type I diabetes is eating a plant-based diet, both of us are. And we are enjoying great health. It works, folks. On average, vegans weigh 40 pounds less than omnivores.

Have you seen President Clinton's wonderful health tetstimonial? Only problem is, it misses the point: The solution to our health problems isn't "plant-based". It is balance. There is every evidence that we evolved as a meat eating species as far back as 2 million years, and meat does not cause inflammation when eaten... within the confines of normal weight. The problem is what we eat with the meat and the resulting weight gain. Plant foods are the necessary balancing component to the protein of meat or any other protein we choose. The scientific point to be made about protein is: Lean, complete protein of any source is a fine protein.

Mr. President, you can have your steak and eat it, just make it lean.

Actually, no. The two approaches, Ornish and Esselstyn, that have been shown to reverse coronary artery disease are both plant based.
Eating meat causes tranisent endothelial dysfunction, which is the harbinger of atherosclerosis. There is a relationship between meat consuption and early mortality. Meat is relatively lacking in nutrients. You are better off eating veggies with all of their phytonutrients.
Most of the meat produced in our society, beef, chicken and pork is highly processed and laden with fat, hormones and antibiotics.

Actually yes. The research in question has never been done against a protein-blanced diet.
The fact that we have destroyed our food sources including meat does not make them bad to begin with, and the assertion that meat is relatively lacking in nutrients is highly misunderstood: Our most important macro nutrient, protein, is abundant in meat, so is vitamin B12 and Iron. You are not "better off eating veggies", you are better off striking a balance between your protein and your veggies, the latter being an equally crucial component of healthy eating, but not the whole story.

I gave up red meat twenty five years ago, chicken almost five years ago, but until a little over a year ago when I gave up most dairy, I was still a little pudgy. The weight just fell off! The best part is how great I feel! I love almond milk, beans, nuts, Whole Wheat pasta and every vegetable and fruit! I also quit sugar and all processed food! It is actually very easy if you enjoy cooking. Now..... going out to dinner is tricky, and since I eat as Organic as I can, near impossible. I hope some cafes catch the message. I cheered when I heard this video. Bill is a fantastic speaker for change!

Cook or diet books you would recommend to do this?
06:49 PM on 09/22/2010
I am following Dr. Gundry's Diet Evolution (name of book) and it is working miracles for me also. I highly recommend it. It does allow for a gradual reduction of meat in the diet, and is definitely plant-based. I am not hungry, have more energy, the weight is melting off. I love it!

My husband and I drank the "Cool-Aid" also, and it worked. Maybe you should take a sip. You will be totally surprised

Surprised at eating things that taste like cardboard, are 4 or 5 times more expensive and wate hours on prep. I don't think so. This IS cool-aid, just like the "organic" BS

Chas, good for you. We have a GP in my town who read Eat to Live by Joel Furhman and uses the plant based diet in his practice. I heard him speak recently and want him for my doctor as soon as he starts taking patients again. He was amazed at what the diet did for him. We have several doctors in our town who are vegetarien because they are Seven Day Adventists and they are all thin as rails. I love my BP at 112/60 and the doctor is amazed as I'm growing older as a senior. All the other numbers are great too!

Hi meg, the plant based diet took a giant leap forward with a spokesman like Bill don't you think? And he did his research and made the decision himself. Hope others listen and follow his lead. Bill is a real leader and she just went up several notches in my estimation. Now if only Hillary would do the same thing! Glad to hear Esselyn's name and the Cleveland Clinic as well written about by the Campbell's in The China Study. I sent C.Colin Campbell an email when he wrote an article here recently and he said his son who helped him write the book is now a Doctor! I'd like to hear more about that decision but have no doubt that the China Study had some input don't you think.

Have a great day meg. Jan is reading your articles and websites and is impressed as I knew she would be. She and her Great Dane share a green smoothie every morning and this huge dog is a vegetarian!

Lynne, this is a giant leap forward for health in this country and Bill looks great! The books The China Study and Eat to Live are our two biggest selling health books at the store I "retired" to and have been since they came out years ago. I'm feeling encouraged.
