Huffington Post political reporter Sam Stein went on MSNBC's Morning Joe this morning to discuss last night's midterm election primary results, which included a victory for President Obama-endorsed Democratic Senator Michael Bennet in the Colorado primary over challenger Andrew Romanoff, who had the support of former President Bill Clinton.

Host Joe Scarborough noted that while the overall picture going into the midterms suggests a big year for Republicans, the race-by-race breakdown is much more encouraging to Democrats.

"You have a whole host of different elections where, for lack of a better phrase, the Republican Party has shot itself in the foot with these primary results," Stein said. "I don't think you can overstate how happy the White House is this morning."

Later on in the show Stein discussed the furor over recent comments made by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs decrying the criticisms of the administration made by "the professional left."

"Remember, this is the president who continuously calls out the left to hold his feet to the fire, to push him to do greater things," Stein pointed out. "So for them to turn around and say, 'Well, we're tired of you pushing' is a little disingenuous."
