STOCKHOLM — Ingvar Kamprad, founder of home furnishings company IKEA, is moving back to Sweden after more than 30 years in Switzerland.

Family spokesman Per Heggenes told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the 87-year-old will move "before the end of the year" to a farmhouse near his native Almhult, in southern Sweden.

Heggenes said Kamprad started thinking about moving when his wife died in 2011, and "decided to go back to Sweden to spend more time with his friends and his family."

He said Kamprad's three sons don't live in Sweden but spend their summer and Christmas vacations there.

The news was first reported by Swedish newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet.

Heggenes said Kamprad, who often appears on lists of the world's richest people, no longer has an operational role in the company.
