EASTON, Pa. — A woman has admitted working with her estranged husband to swindle a Pennsylvania shipping heiress out of $1.1 million with fake sob stories.

The Express-Times (http://bit.ly/1aFcwJq) says Allentown resident Shawnta Carmon pleaded guilty Monday to felony theft charges and will be sentenced Nov. 22.

Authorities says Carmon and her husband told Bethlehem shipping heiress Marlene "Linny" Fowler bogus tales about dental work, a heart transplant for a sick child and college tuition for their niece.

Fowler was the daughter of a onetime UPS chief executive. She died in February at age 73 while a grand jury was investigating.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli says Carmon and her husband spent the money they got on clothes, jewelry, limousine rides and gambling.

The husband was due for trial Monday, but it was postponed.
