LIBREVILLE, Gabon — LIBREVILLE, Gabon (AP) — An emergency response official says a mother and at least one of her children were killed as heavy rain caused landslides in Gabon's capital.

Roger Ekogha, lieutenant in the firefighting company that responded to the incident, said the bodies of the woman and her young son had been found buried in mud Tuesday morning and that officials were still looking for the woman's young daughter.

He said the landslide in Libreville occurred after heavy rainfall began at around 5 a.m. Tuesday, the first significant rain since the end of the dry season in September.

Landslides are common in Libreville's poor, crowded neighborhoods during the rainy season.

More than 100 police, gendarmes and rescue workers responded to the scene on Tuesday, some using chain saws to clear felled trees.
